Some people actually believe that vent is an elite skill that must be capped with a secret signet of stupidity from rurik in ascalon. If you wait long enough, you might get lucky and catch a noob standing in front of him trying to figure it out.

...He never will.

Hmm - how about the Spider pet causes Poison? I saw some *really* large arguments over that one with quite a bit of "proof" that it did.

Someone mentioned the Mad King - in the last few festivals he would get stuck and quit doing anything, many thought that if you click him (anyone and the first time it was done) he would stop.

And charming a bear in Pre-Sear Ascalon has moved back and forth between urban legend and reality so many times it is hard to keep up if it is currently possible or someone feeding you a line of bull they heard from a friend who heard from a friend.

During runes of despair mission, someone was trying to argue that storm bow is not a longbow.

IIRC it's that a r9 weapon does the same damage as a r12 or r13. Which is actually true, IIRC, in the sense they both do 15-22 damage. However a r13 will do more damage in reality because 13 points makes you more likely to land a critical hit than 9 points.

Oh, and here's a few other urban myths
1. Assassins suck
2. Mesmers suck
3. Rangers suck
4. Ritualists suck
5. Smiter monks suck
6. Non SF or Echo/MS eles suck
7. Hammer warriors in pve suck
8. Non SS/MM/Battery necros suck.

I have a good friend who believes that doing a long, low-level mission (ala Ruins of Surmia) with low-level teammates (real players, not henchmen) will un-flag the drop restrictions on your account. He's always maintained this belief as long as I've known him--I met him long before loot scaling was put into the game.

I've personally never found this superstition to help me out, but he swears by it, and he believes that there really is an account flag that lowers and raises the amount of drops assigned to you in a mission.

The thing is, he really is a talented player.

I think that was actually true when there was the anti farming code.

In reality, they both do the same amount of damage at 13+ weapon mastery.

When I started the game everybody in my guild all thought getting "ascended" was the end of the game.

I originally heard (back in the days) that using meteor's in Baal runs back in Diablo 2 gave less xp for the whole group, and there would be huge groups of people whining about it. I was very surprised one day to find someone whinging about an ele using meteor shower in fissure one day, because we would get less xp! I assume that's where he got it from? .... Weird.

The Wintersday '06 Dwarf in Kamadan was a hillarious widespread urban legend.

Yeah, one of the reasons I pump my weapon skills up as much as I can. People still call me an idiot or n00b for doing it.

For the REALLY old school PvP-ers:

"XXX is giving away free sigils in District 4"

A sufficient number of morons existed that would believe that people actually give away free sigils, such that you could get your buddy into the district and have that player join your Tombs party.

It's entirely possible, you just have to not suck at life (and have a friend to help you).
